3 ways to support detoxification

It’s probably not a surprise to you that there aren’t any quick fixes when it comes to supporting detoxification in the body. Pills and teas that make you sh*t yourself? no, thank you! Thankfully, there are more gentle and sustainable ways to support detoxification. And they don’t involve restriction or fasting.

1.  Nutrition

Consuming a whole-foods based diet is going to support healthy digestion and healthy liver function. A whole-foods diet means eating a diet with minimal processed foods, with foods as close to their natural state as possible, think more from the earth and less from a packet. For optimum health we recommend a diet high in vegetables and fruit, with legumes, whole grains, lean protein from both animal and plant sources, nuts and seeds and fermented foods.
Rather than putting the focus on the foods you should be avoiding for example sugar, we put the focus on abundance and variety.

2. Sweet dreams

Detox while you sleep? A good night’s rest may literally clear the mind. Using mice, researchers showed for the first time that the space between brain cells may increase during sleep, allowing the brain to flush out toxins that build up during waking hours. While you are asleep your body repairs, rejuvenates and eliminates waste via detoxification pathways.
Our recommendation is 7-9 hours of good quality sleep and waking refreshed. Practicing good sleep hygiene is imperative; minimise screen time and bright lights, have a regular bedtime, include a night-time ritual such as a cup of sleepy tea like Dream.

3. Liver love

Your liver is the responsible for a lot for the detoxification processes that occur in the body. There are multiple factors that can have it working over time such as increased alcohol consumption, pesticide exposure or household chemicals and fragrances that it has to process. We love to use herbal medicine to support our liver function, some of our go-tos are:

Chicory (Cichorium intybus)
Chicory with its bitter qualities supports the regulation of a healthy appetite and supports digestion. Traditionally used to balance gallbladder and liver function.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. This traditional Ayurvedic herb helps to support the function of the liver and gastrointestinal system.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Traditionally used to support liver detoxification and to tonify the kidney. With its bitter flavour, dandelion helps to support digestion and regulate bowel function.

Have you tried our Balance blend?

Balance is a complex, spicy brew of warming and purifying botanicals traditionally used to support liver detoxification. It contains dandelion, cinnamon, ginger, red clover, vanilla, cardamom, turmeric, chicory, clove, black pepper making is similar to a dandelion chai.
